Introduction
Zoltek Zrt. (Hungary) is a wholly owned subsidiary of Zoltek Companies, Inc. located in St. Louis, Missouri (USA). The Hungarian Company was established in 1941, and became a leading manufacturer in Hungary. Its product range has increased and become extensively diversified over the years. In 1995, the company was acquired by Zoltek Companies, Inc., a USA company with a vision and strategy to commercialize carbon fibers. Since the acquisition, Zoltek ZRT has discontinued all other operations, concentrating only on the production of acrylic fibers.
Zoltek ZRT was a producer of acrylic fibers for the textile industry. The knowledge of acrylic fibers technology attracted Zoltek Companies, Inc. to Zoltek ZRT because acrylic fiber is the precursor for carbon fiber manufacturing. Zoltek ZRT developed the process and converted its facility from textile acrylic to precursor manufacturing.
Since 1995, Zoltek Companies, Inc. has installed carbon fiber manufacturing facilities. Zoltek Zrt. has become a major manufacturer of carbon fiber, which we expect to become the 21st Century's most important construction material.
