History of Zoltek ZRT

Zoltek Zrt was originally established on 7 April, 1941 under the name Magyar Viscosa Rt. in Nyergesújfalu, Komarom-Esztergom county, Hungary.

Main Events

  • 1943 Viscose rayon staple fiber production started.
  • 1948 The company is nationalized and operates under the name of Magyar Viscosagyár.
  • 1958 CMC (Carboxy Methyl Cellulose) production started under own license and Viscose rayon production discontinued.
  • 1958 Poliamid-6 based staple fiber production started under the brand name DANAMID.
  • 1965 Poliamid-6 continuous filament production started under the brand name DANAMID.
  • 1973 Acrylic fiber production started under the brand name CRUMERON.
  • 1981 Production of plastic nets and mesh started.
  • 1982 Engineering plastics production begins and the production of polyamide compounds is started under the brand name Danamid.
  • 1991 Second large scale production of acrylic fiber started under the brand name MAVILON under DuPont license.
  • 1993 The company reverts to a public company under the original name of Magyar Viscosa Rt.
  • 1995 December 8. - the company becomes a wholly owned subsidiary of Zoltek Companies, Inc., located in St. Louis, Missouri (USA), which continues its operation as Magyar Viscosa Rt.
  • 1997 Company name changed to Zoltek Zrt.

Since 1997 all operations, other than the modified acrylic fiber production, has been discontinued.

The Zoltek Strategy: To lead the commercialization of carbon fibers as low-cost but high performance reinforcement for composites used as a primary building material in everyday products. Carbon fiber production in Hungary began in 1997, requiring significant capital expenditure. Carbon fiber textile processing began at the same time.

Registered capital of Zoltek Zrt. is HUF 7.735 billion.
