Northrop Grumman Ship Systems (Pascagoula, Miss.) has awarded Sigmatex High Technology Fabrics (Benicia, Calif.) an $11.2 million contract to supply woven, multiaxial and unidirectional carbon fiber fabrics in support of DDG1000, a Northrop Grumman Ship Systems and U.S. Navy program.

The program was known as DD(x) under the previous contractual phases. This contract is in support of two DDG1000 class ships. All composite fabrication will be performed in Northrop’s Composite Center of Excellence, located in Gulfport, Miss. The various forms of carbon fabric will be produced in Sigmatex’s Benicia, Calif., facility, using domestically produced carbon fiber. Delivery of the carbon fiber fabric is scheduled to begin in 2008 and run through 2010.
