Zoltek's Take: As we have stated before, Big Oil will continue to look for oil offshore and they will have to go deep to find it. In order to reach the oil in these far out and deep locations, Big Oil will have to look beyond the typical technology and the traditional materials that they’ve used for decades. In particular, steel will have to be replaced in numerous applications as its properties will limit the ability of Big Oil to get to the necessary depths where the oil resides.

The statistics in this article really are remarkable, specifically the statistics regarding the growth in deepwater exploration. We have reiterated our belief that deepwater oil exploration will continue to grow and require technological breakthroughs in order to be successful. We believe that carbon fibers will play an integral role in these technological breakthroughs. This article helps serve as a reminder that we are on the right path and that the future of carbon fibers is very bright.
