Zoltek's Take: While there is a lot of useful information in this article that summarizes the ACCE conference, and many of the topics/ideas/opinions that were discussed, we would like to draw your attention to two specific pieces of this article. The first piece is the photo of the Corvette ZR1 hood. This hood is made with Zoltek carbon fiber. The second, and a bit more important, is in the last paragraph that notes two “blockbuster keynote speeches that were given at the ACCE conference.

Matt Tsien, GM’s Executive Director, Global Technology Engineering, gave a speech that made it quite clear that industrial grade carbon fiber is a key piece of GM’s strategy.

We have said many times before that the automotive industry will indeed, at some point in the future, be the largest market for commercial grade carbon fibers. Mr. Tsien’s speech reiterates our view and demonstrates that the automotive industry, irrespective of their macro environment and the low price of oil/gasoline, continues to work on breakthroughs for fully incorporating the use of carbon fibers in automotive production.
