Zoltek's Take: We have stated countless times the advantages of composites in a myriad of applications. This article is a great example of how composites improve infrastructure, specifically bridges.
Composites are often more expensive than steel or concrete, but the advantages of composites lead to savings in other areas. A few examples from this article are that all of the bridge's beams were transported on one truck instead of six, a 30-ton crane was used instead of a 150 to 200-ton crane, and the long-term maintenance costs will be drastically reduced.
