Zoltek's Take: Carbon fiber will not only play a role in traditional gasoline powered cars, but also in hydrogen and natural gas powered cars. Hydrogen and natural gas powered cars require heavily pressurized storage tanks. These storage tanks have traditionally been made out of steel, which is very heavy, and thus negatively affects the efficiency of car. Storage tanks that are made out of carbon fiber composites drastically reduce the weight of the tank, and thus the overall weight of the car, making it more energy efficient. The technology for hydrogen and natural gas powered cars is already here. This article clearly shows that consumer demand for these vehicles is already here and will continue to grow, which we believe will lead to the missing infrastructure that is needed to fully adopt the use of hydrogen and natural gas powered vehicles.
