Zoltek Receives Another Large Wind Contract

By Composites Technology

Zoltek Companies Inc. (St. Louis, Mo.) announced it has concluded a long-term strategic supply agreement with Fiberblade S.A. (Pamplona, Spain), a unit of Gamesa Eolica, under which Zoltek will supply Fiberblade with $65 million to $75 million (USD) worth of commercial-grade carbon fiber and carbon fiber materials over the first three years of the contract for the manufacture of advanced, large-scale rotor blades for wind turbines.

Gamesa Eolica is reportedly the world's second largest supplier of wind turbines with carbon fiber-reinforced blades and the market leader in several regional European markets. Gamesa announced plans in January for a $40 million expansion in the U.S. A new blade production plant, to be located at Cambria County Business Park in Edensburg, Pa., will employ up to 500 workers for construction and operations (200 will have permanent manufacturing jobs). Gamesa's U.S. administrative headquarters will be in Philadelphia.
